Livestock Goat & Poultry Management

Live Stock Management

During Extreme Summer

Wallowing arrangements should be made in the farm itself during the hot summer months. Various cooling systems, such as fans, wet curtain or panels, air coolers or conditioners, can be utilized on big commercial dairy farms during extremely hot conditions. Providing chilled potable drinking water helps to alleviate heat stress during hot summers. A sufficient number of shaded water troughs should be supplied for the animals in a convenient location.

The animals should be fed a concentrate mixture comprising more than 18 percent digestible protein and 70 percent energy, as well as tasty, digestible, and laxative feed. Green fodder proportions should be increased, and long fodders should be chopped before feeding. Increase nutrient utilization by soaking concentrate in equal amounts of water for 20-30 minutes. During the summer, dietary mineral and vitamin supplementation should be increased. Increasing milk supply during heat stress by supplementing salt and potassium in the diet.

During Monsoon

Always make an effort to keep the roofs of animal sheds clean and leak-proof. Livestock farmers must cut part of the fresh grass from the wet season and dry it in the sun before feeding it. It will absorb water from the grass and convert it to a nutritious diet. Because worms develop at a faster rate during the monsoon season, deworming should be done at the start and during the season. Livestock farmers must spray their animals for ectoparasites on a regular basis and trim all bushes near their sheds. A disinfectant must be used on a regular basis to sanitize the farm. Make sure the feeds are kept or stored in a dry location.

Goat Husbandry

Avoid any ‘rhododendron‘ type plants, as they can induce a variety of illnesses, eventually leading to death. If your goats eat these plants, you should seek medical attention right once. Because goats are sensitive to both external and internal parasites, they must be de-wormed on a regular basis. Weight loss, reproductive failures, poor hair coat, and health problems may occur if goats are not de-wormed on a regular basis. Farmers should deworm their goat herds at least once every two to three months. Deworming treatment should be administered to young goats at the age of 7 to 8 weeks. In order to choose a deworming schedule for goats, consult your veterinarian.

Goats are protected against clostridium perfringens types C and D (overeating illness) and tetanus by receiving the CDT vaccine. At the age of 7 to 8 weeks, goat babies should be vaccinated. 4 weeks later, booster shots should be given. These goats should then be given goats once a year.

Poultry Farming

Creating a link between the supply of poultry products (eggs and chicken meat) and the critical commodity supply chain in all of the notified / targeted locations. Through all appropriate government departments, raise consumer knowledge about the quality and safety of egg and chicken meat. There are various myths / incorrect notions concerning the production and quality / safety of poultry products now circulating among the general public (egg and chicken meat).

As a result, proper education of the general public about the health benefits of eggs and chicken meat, production standards, bio-security, and health care practices, as well as the quality and nutrient specifications of poultry diet, aids them in understanding and appreciating the safety of poultry products.

Cleaning, Grading, Packing and Branding of eggs with clear specifications like Date of production, expiry Date, egg weight, protein and essential phospho-lipid content on the pack, will boost up the confidence of consumers.

Improving the transportation of live birds in closed containers by providing the necessary micro-environment, such as temperature, ventilation, oxygen levels, and other factors, will improve the image of poultry farming and increase consumer confidence. Encourage people to eat processed chicken meat by creating a sanitary mechanized processing factory, appealing packaging with all pertinent product information, a proper cold chain, and the establishment of trusted brand values.

With the help of various health department wings such as human doctors, health / fitness centers, well-known athletes, social workers, and others, a mass campaign to promote the consumption of chicken meat and eggs will undoubtedly help to increase the consumption of poultry products without prejudice. To prevent the disease from spreading over the summer, all backyard poultry birds must be vaccinated against Newcastle and other viral diseases.

Preparation of Shed before Brooding

After the old birds have been removed, spray an insecticide. Remove all non-stationary equipment from troughs and bins, as well as any remaining feed. If there are any rodents or wild birds, get rid of them. Using a hard brush, scrape away all of the dung, debris, feathers, cobwebs, dust, and other organic materials. Remove all weeds, trash, bur feathers, and other debris from the area around the house. Using a flame gun, remove dust/feathers from wire mesh, fissures, cracks, cages, and the floor.
